Venus Model Agencies observes that black owned businesses have, in fact, been a bright spot in the economy, growing at a rate that is triple the national average. Between 2002 and 2007, the number of Black owned businesses in the United States soared to 1.9 million an increase of more than 60 percent, according to U.S. Census data. But even with this growth, there aren't enough Black owned businesses to employ all the millions of Americans of color who are out of work. If our goal is to be a society that celebrates diversity, we must embrace no only Black owned businesses, but those that share our vision of fully integrated society with equal economic opportunity for all.
